Why Long Hair Could be Costly

Most clogged sinks and drains come from hair being caught in the sink. You will find hair clogs the most in the bathroom, either in the shower or the sink. If you have long hair or live with someone who has long hair, you know better than anyone that long hair tends to get trapped in the drains and sinks more than short hair does. Short hair does go down the drain but because of the shortness of the hair it does not get tangled with other hair in the pipes as long hair does.

You may not even realize it is happening but when you are brushing your hair chances are you are brushing it in front of the bathroom mirror and as you are brushing the hair, some of it is getting into the sink and instead of cleaning it out you just kind of let it go down the drain. The more this happens the bigger the hair ball is accumulating in the drain.

What will happens is that the hair grows so big it gets wedged and there may not be anything you can do except to call a plumber. Then this is going to cost you money. Depending how long it takes a plumber to snake a drain and clear out the debris is how much you are going to pay. So there are some ways to avoid this problem.

Check the shower drain; see if the holes are big or small. Choose a drain that has small holes, these drains allow water to go through but will stop the hair from getting through the drain. If your drain has somewhat larger holes then replace it with a drain with smaller holes. They may even have a hair catcher that can help with these problems.

Another remedy is not to brush your hair over the sink and don't leave your hairbrush near the sink. Brush your hair in another room away from the sink and drain. Hair does fall out, it happens to everyone, if you see hair in the sink don't wash it down the drain. Clean it out accordingly, what starts as a small problem can actually cost you a lot of money in plumbing costs. Save your self the money and put it on sink and shower drains.
