Why should I regulate my water temperature?

Have you ever turned on the hot water and the water has been too hot, no matter how much cold water you put. This could be very dangerous especially if you have kids who are old enough and tall enough to reach the sink. If they turned on the water they could get burned. If you rent a home then it would be in your best interest to speak to the landlord if it is an apartment, but if it is a home then you will be able to do this yourself.

Most heaters are set at 140 degrees Fahrenheit but that may be to hot. There really isn't any real reason it should be that hot except if you have a dishwasher and it the dishwasher does not have a booster heat pump. Try lowering the heat to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure the electricity from the breaker is not on when you adjust. There are two adjustment dials on the thermostat on a hot water heater.

The reasons why you should regulate the water temperature in the hot water heater is that you could save about 10 percent of your water heating bill. You will also reduce the risk of someone getting burned on your water. If you do rent an apartment in someone's home, then contact the landlord and ask them to lower the temperature or ask them if you could have access to the water heater and you could do it your self.

If you happen to live in an apartment building then, you may have some trouble. Usually it is hard enough to get a hold of the super but be persistent you don't want anyone to get burned. Water at a certain temperature will burn the skin rather quickly. Water at 65 degrees Celsius will cause a partial thickness burn in about 2 seconds, water at 60 degrees Celsius will partial thickness burn in 5 seconds, 55 degrees Celsius will partial thickness burn in 15 seconds and 50 degree Celsius will partial thickness burn in 90 seconds.

To avoid any small to severe type of burns please read your hot water heater and then make the necessary adjustments. With kids running around the house you don't want then turning on the faucet and burn their hands or worse yet, they turn on the faucet you get a drink and they treat the sink like a water fountain, they could very well burn their lips.
