How to keep your sinks clog free

Every now and then everyone has had either a bathroom sink clog or a kitchen sink clog. Most of the time you can avoid these drain clogs by just being aware of what you doing near the drain. Let?s start with the kitchen sink. One reason why your sink may be clogged is because some people forget that a sink drain does not double as a garbage disposal. People think if it is small enough to fit in the holes in the drain that it will slide easily down the drain.

The truth to that theory is that there is none. Just because it fits doesn?t mean that is where it belongs. The more food that gets stuck there, the bigger the ball of food gets and then you will get a clog so tough you may have to call a plumber to get it out. Another theory is that you can pour oil down the drain just because it is liquid. It really isn?t a good thing to do to pour oil down the drain because when it congeals it will form a clog in the lines that again maybe be too tough for Drano to get out.

If you are going to pour oil down the drain by accident or however else it may get there, run the water as hot as possibly following the oil. The hot water will lessen the hardening effect. But as a rule of thumb , try to avoid pouring oil down the drain. Do not use your sink drain as a garbage disposal.

The main clog issue with bathroom sinks is mainly hair. 99 percent of people comb their hair over the sink because that is usually where the mirror is. You may not realize you are doing it but the hair that leaves your head, even when you are brushing your teeth your hair may come out and eventually if you don?t catch it, it will easily clog a drain. That goes for the shower drain too.

Use sink guards in the kitchen drain so food cannot get down into the drain. Hair may also be an issue in the kitchen too, it could fall out while you are doing dishes and when you release the water from the sink, the hair will float down too. Add Draino or Liquid Plumber once a week if use the sink a lot. It will keep all the sinks working fine.
