If you are do it your self plumber and you are ready to take on a home project, maybe installing a sink or repairing your clogged pump you still need to have the correct equipment before beginning any job. Your first task is to figure out what you will need, you can research the internet or you can visit your local specialty store and ask them what you will need.

For plumbing equipment some places will not sell to individual people only companies, so will have to go to the local shops like Home Depot, they have a great inventory of products and they have salespeople with experience who can help you get the supplies and if you have any questions, they will be able to help you with the job. If you get stuck while on the job you can call them and they will be more than happy to assist you.

Lowes is a great place for plumbing supplies as well, they have a great line of products and they have sales people who are ready to help you. The bigger stores like Lowes and Home Depot have experienced plumbers on hand who are knowledgeable. The local hardware stores have some equipment but if you are looking to do a big job like installing something rather than changing a valve.

The smaller stores may have people with some knowledge but many of them have teenagers working there so you may not be able to get the help that you are looking for. For bigger jobs shop and Home Depot or Lowes, you get the help as well as great products like Moen, Delta, American Standard and Koehler. The larger stores will also have more of an inventory than the smaller stores.

The local hardware stores sometimes are equipped with a small inventory because they don't want to carry large lines of products for big jobs; they want the small local business instead of high volume. Their stores are not large enough to hold a big inventory. Have you ever been to a small hardware store, if there are 5 people in the store then it is crowded?

Shopping is a preference, if you prefer to shop in the local stores then be prepared to not start your project right away because they will probably not have a supply item you need. If you want great products and great technical support, shop the bigger stores for bigger projects.
