Irrigation System for Outdoor Arena

When running maintenance for an outdoor arena the most important thing is having a very good irrigation system installed that will aid you in the process. Outdoor arenas are usually built for hosting sports events so high quality is a necessity. An improperly built irrigation system for outdoor arenas will make any game held there dangerous.

Building a good irrigation system for outdoor arenas starts with choosing what system to use. While most residential or commercial irrigation systems are low level underground, this is not acceptable in an arena. You just can not have sprinklers, pipes and irrigation valves in this area. There are exceptions to this rule as technology becomes more advanced as time passes. If the newly designed irrigation system is deep enough then it can be used for an outdoor arena. The trick is proper planning. As sport competitions are held the ground tends to be affected. Holes can be created and pipes could appear. In most cases, when we have an underground irrigation system, the pipes are very thin and deeply buried. The system is usually automated and special sprinklers that come out of the earth are used. When the irrigation system is activated the sprinklers come in action and start watering the outdoor arena. Proper planning and installation will make it possible for the entire arena to be watered properly.

With irrigation systems for outdoor arenas automation is the right word to use. If the size of the area and the power of the sprinklers allow it, another installation is based on a round design. The area to be watered is surrounded by pipes that have attached sprinklers at needed distances between each other. This system is not perfect but again, if properly installed and designed, it can provide a good solution for the irrigation of a small to middle-sized outdoor arena.

What you do not want to do, and yet it is still done in some locations, is water the outdoor arena by using a hose. This is because the method will create uneven areas of taken in water. One region will have more water than another and this will make grass grow at uneven heights and will have an impact on ground resistance.

The last thing that needs to be taken into account is rain. If the outdoor arena is covered then it will not be a factor but if it is not you wouldn’t want your irrigation system to add more water than the area needs. When you have a system that is automatic and goes off at certain hours in certain days you should check to see weather it is always needed or not.
