What to do if your toilet is clogged

If you get the annoying toilet clog, your first thought will be to find a plunger and begin plunging and hope with every plunge that it will be the one that unclogs the toilet. 90 percent of the time a plunge will most always work, that is unless there is an underlying problem besides the all too common too much toilet paper. Another reason why the toilet may clog would be maybe your toddler threw something down there and watched it just swirl away.

There are also more technical problems that would make your toilet clog. Depending on the problem would be the solution. With too much toilet paper, after a couple of tries you will loosen the clog and that would be it. But if the problem lies with in the sewer or septic lines then you will need to call a plumber. They may be able to snake the drain or if you have a septic system then it may be your tank is full and it just needs to be emptied.

If you have a little plumber in you, you could rent a snake machine and try snaking the drain yourself but if you don?t trust your skills as a home grown plumber then call someone like Roto-Rooter to help you. You may also have a sump pump problem, a float could be hanging up or the pump itself may be shot.

You will still need a plumber to determine that and then to change it as well. You may want to try pouring scalding hot water into the toilet, hot water may loosen the clog but that does not always work. Either way, you may have to spend money on the plumber. That is why it is very important to maintain your toilet and septic tanks. There are several items on the market that you can find in your local plumbing store that you pour in the drains and toilet to help keep the septic free of clogs.

As much as you try to avoid spending money on a plumber, overall it may be the best things. Take care of the problem and ask them if there is anything they recommend you use for your septic tank. Maybe there is something they can use to help you get started in preventative maintenance.
