Installing an Undermount Sink

In the world of the do it yourself mania everybody is trying to do as much as possible alone in their home without wanting to pay for the services of a professional. This is of course a good thing but you must realize that not everything simple. Installing an undermount sink is easy to do but there is a big chance you will mess up when you try to do more complicated plumber actions like replacing water lines or cleaning the main drain system. Let us take a look at what you need to know when actually installing an undermount sink alone.

Such sinks are very popular as they will allow you to easily clean the adjacent surfaces. You can also install it on virtually any counter type so this is an added plus. Based on the manufacturer of the undermount sink we will find different types of attachments but in most cases installation instructions are included so they can help a lot. You might also find some precut or predrilled elements including countertops and pre-fits to match. This means that your work would resume to just tightening screws and applying some plumber putty or chosen sealant.

In order to actually install the undermount sink you will only need to follow two steps. The first one stands in applying a small amount of silicone caulk (or the sealant that came with the sink) around the edge of the bowl. You need to read the directions on the instructions in order to do this properly. The second step is placing the countertop upside down. You will position the bowl and secure it with the screws you will find in the installation kit. Any extra sealant must be removed and then just turn the countertop over and attach it to the cabinet. The last thing to do is attaching the water supply lines and the drain and you are done.

The installation instructions are usually very straight on. If you do not have them and you have no idea where to start in the installation of your new undermount sink you could always ask for help from a specialist. Such an operation is not that expensive and we are only talking about the installation of a sink and not more complicated actions. After installation is complete turn on the water and check for potential leaks. If you find them make sure you fix them and everything is finished. Your new undermount sink is installed properly!
