How to Install Shower Plumbing

Installing a shower or bathtub is very easy and anyone can do it. Plumbing in general is difficult when you think about the entire system. When talking about just installing shower plumbing all becomes a lot easier.

Based on the shower type that is to be installed, you will notice a shower head that should either be fitted (in order to keep it from having contact with water) or should come with a check valve. Before actually installing shower plumbing you must decide on two aspects: what type of shower you will be installing and how the actual pipe work is going to be laid out. While choosing the shower is easy, the second step is more difficult. You should use 15 mm diameter pipes and aim at making the run to the shower as straight and short as you can. This will minimize heat loss and will give you maximum water pressure. Elbow use for pipe corners should also be reduced to a minimum as this works against water flow and creates resistance. An alternative used is pipe bending.

If you are installing shower plumbing that is being fitted with a manual mixer, you need to take cold water directly from the cold water cistern. You must not use any other pipe that currently supplies another cistern or tap. This would cause scalding when getting decreased pressure and variations in temperature. Hot water can be taken from a branch pipe because in the case water supply is reduced there will only be a temporary discomfort. If you install a thermostatic shower you need not worry about getting a separate water branch because temperature is controlled and stabilized automatically.

Once you finished planning the pipe work involved you should mark the position of the shower head and control. Plan the drainage system that is to be installed and you are ready for the actual installation. Start by consulting the instruction guide that you should have got from your reseller. You will find information to fit the shower control. After this is done cut off water supply and start installing the pipes. Now you have to fit the supplied fittings, shower head and base try. The last step is connecting the main shower control to the previously installed pipes. Now reconnect the water source and check for eventual leaks. Fix them if they appear and your shower is ready to be used. Keep in mind that you also have to add the cubicle tray and the screens but you would surely not forget this.
