Getting Your Plumbing Ready For Spring

After a long winter season its finally time to get your household plumbing ready for the spring season and to make sure everything is ok from the winterization of the plumbing.

Depending on what you did to winterize you plumbing in your home will depend on what you need to do to properly summerize you house for the winter. Here is a list of things that are commonly done to winterize you home plumbing. Just undo any of the list that you might have done in the fall to protect yourself for the winter.

What Usually Is Winterized

  • Hose spigot turned off in basement or closets


  • Pipes lined with heat tape


  • Pipes overly insulated for winter


  • Outdoor bathrooms shut or valved off


  • Those are just a few things that are usually done in the winterization process for your home plumbing and as mentioned above some things may pertain to you and some may not, but let's list what you need to make sure is done to have a great summer season.

    Summer Plumbing Checklist

  • Open all closed or winterized valves


  • Reconnect Garden hoses to the spigots


  • Clean all gutters to prepare for spring / summer rain


  • Clean all roof and floor drain grates


  • Have your Oil or gas burner tuned up for summer


  • Remove any heat tape that you had on exposed pipes


  • If you decide to follow some or all of the steps below your chances in having a safe and happy summer plumbing season will greatly increase.
