Is My Septic System Full?

A full septic system might be signaled by a number of factors. One must know them in order to realize when it is failing and when there is a need for cleaning or maybe even replacing it. We are talking about a very important aspect of our plumbing system so complete seriousness must be a reality.

In order to see whether or not your septic system is full or failing you need to ask yourself some simple to answer questions. First off, think about the way your toilet flushes. Is it slow or maybe your toilet backs up for another reason than maybe clogged pipes or old age? In such a case you might need to change your septic tank or system. We might also be dealing with a simple clog that can easily be fixed. Next we need to think about any wet and bad odor filled areas in your yard. If they exist and they usually appear after doing laundry we might again have a problem with the septic system.

Another thing that needs to be analyzed is whether the septic tank is linked via pipes to a stream or ditch. The same goes for checking whether your washing machine is linked to one surface in your yard. If the grass around that area is greener than the rest a further investigation is needed. Analyze the location where you septic tank is found. Are there any wet or spongy areas even if it did not rain in a while? Again, if this is the case we need to have a better investigation

If in any of the cases mentioned above you answered yes and this is your case, we need to look at the septic tank as it might be failing or might be full. In such a case you will need to contact a specialist for a further analysis. If you think you can do it yourself then go ahead but pay attention to not making matters worse. You might end up with having to pay a much bigger amount of money at the end if you further damage the septic system and that is not a situation you want yourself in. If you suspect a full septic system or one that is not working properly anymore, call a plumber and see what can be done. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
